About the Team
City of Gold Coast, in conjunction with partner agencies and organisations, coordinates activities during a disaster event to minimise loss of human life, illness, injury to humans, property loss or damage, and damage to the environment. This is achieved through strategic decision‑making by the Local Disaster Management Group and operational activities coordinated by the Local Disaster Coordination Centre. The Disaster and Emergency Management Unit ensures effective disaster‑management arrangements to mitigate, prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster events. The Unit provides critical support to the Gold Coast Local Disaster Management Group, works collaboratively with emergency services and other partners to manage community impacts, and maintains readiness, conducts training and exercises, and supports technology and support systems.
About Your New Role
The Disaster Management Officer supports disaster and emergency management planning and capability within the City of Gold Coast Disaster and Emergency Management Unit. The role focuses on delivering "back to basics" training and exercises, applying lessons from Tropical Cyclone Alfred to strengthen citywide preparedness, and working closely with the strategy team to implement effective planning and response frameworks. The position also contributes to leadership initiatives that enhance resilience and response capability.
We're Looking For People Who Have
- Diploma in Disaster Management or relevant knowledge and experience
- Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) – Mandatory
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Passion for providing for the community
