About Your New Role
The Safety and Wellbeing Adviser plays a vital role in supporting the safety and wellbeing of the City's workforce. This role fosters a culture of safety, learning, and continuous improvement through coaching, collaboration, and best practice implementation. This is a hands‑on and technical site-focused role, with a strong presence across multiple City Facilities and operations. The Adviser will promote the City's safety and wellbeing approach, conduct verification activities, and build trusted relationships with City teams. This position is field‑based with regular travel between the City's sites and venues.
Key responsibilities include supporting teams to proactively identify, assess, and control workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards, and promoting a strong safety culture across council's work environments and asset management. The role also provides expert advice and guidance to managers, line leaders, and workers, and leads incident investigations and assurance plans to maximise organisational learning.
We're Looking For People Who Have
- Diploma in Work Health and Safety and / or equivalent relevant experience
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
- Significant demonstrated experience as a WHS Adviser on a diverse range of sites
- Recognised qualifications in incident investigation (Blue Line desired) and WHS auditing
- Sound understanding of and alignment with Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles and undertaking 4D exercises
- Proven ability to work autonomously in fast‑paced project environments, delivering outcomes within deadlines
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills,
with the ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in contemporary WHS practices and methodologies
- Extensive knowledge and accurate interpretation of WHS legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice, and Standards
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities
- Effective influencing, consulting, and coaching skills
- High‑level interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to a cohesive team environment, maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Support initiatives that enhance employee general wellbeing, including mental health, resilience, and psychosocial risk management programs
- Current open driver's licence – class C unrestricted is essential
- General Construction Induction CPCCWHS (white card)
- Computer intermediate skills – Microsoft applications and the ability to adapt with internal systems and processes (Safety Management Systems)
