Pymble

Pymble Ladies’ College is a school of the Uniting Church in Australia for girls Kindergarten to Year 12 with boarding from Year 7. At Pymble, we foster a world-class educational environment with the importance of global citizenship and a worldwide perspective central to our strategic intent.

We believe our staff, both teaching and non-teaching, are our most valuable resource. We are proud to have passionate and dedicated staff who recognise the unique strengths and qualities of every Pymble girl.

The role

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on finance professional to join us as Assistant Finance Manager, on a full-time, permanent basis.

Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will help lead the College’s Finance function by taking day-to-day responsibility for monthly management reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and external reporting requirements. Your experience managing teams will ensure you are able to provide oversight, coaching and guidance to the wider Finance Team.

This is a genuine leadership opportunity for a CA or CPA qualified accountant who thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment and someone who is genuinely curious and committed to process improvements and innovation.

Central to this role is the ability to build relationships and bring out the best in the team, delivering exceptional financial support to budget holders and stakeholders across the College.

Our kind of team member

You will demonstrate the following:

Qualifications and experience:

- CA (preferred) or CPA qualified with a minimum of 5 years experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a comparable role within a large or complex organisation.
- Previous experience as an external auditor desirable.
- Strong analytical skills, with a proven ability to identify, investigate and explain variances to budget and reconciling items in monthly reconciliations.
- Experience and competency in the monthly management reporting process, including month end close, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in Oracle NetSuite is preferred.
- Experience working in a school environment is desirable but not essential.

Capabilities and attributes:

- Proactive by default – you identify what needs to be done and act on it, rather than waiting for direction.

- Comfortable moving between the big picture and the detail, with strong attention to accuracy and deadlines.
- Resilient and calm under pressure, particularly through month end, budget and audit periods.
- Confident and credible when working with non-finance stakeholders, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound judgement and discretion, with the capability to hold the department steady and make decisions in the Finance Manager’s absence.
- A cooperative team player committed to continuous improvement, including the use of automation and AI to drive efficiencies.

Above all, you will share and bring to life our five core values – Care, Courage, Responsibility, Respect and Integrity – in the way you work with colleagues, budget holders and the wider Pymble community.
