Talent is searching for an experienced Senior Test Analyst - API to join our client, a well-regarded financial institution headquartered in Brisbane. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role across core banking and API initiatives, with a strong focus on REST API testing and the migration of legacy SOAP services to modern REST-based services.

About the Role:
As a Senior Test Analyst, you will provide hands-on testing expertise across core banking and API initiatives, delivering functional, integration, regression, end-to-end and performance testing.

A key focus of the role will be testing REST APIs and validating the migration of legacy SOAP services to REST. You'll work closely with developers, business analysts, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure services are reliable, accurate and ready for release.

Responsibilities / Key Deliverables:

- Analyse user stories, requirements, legacy SOAP services and target REST API specifications to determine test coverage and feasibility
- Design, develop and maintain manual and Java-based automated test cases using TestNG
- Perform hands-on REST API functional testing using Swagger.io, Bruno and SOAP UI
- Validate SOAP-to-REST migration outcomes, including request and response structures, JSON/XML payloads, HTTP methods, status codes, error handling and data integrity
- Execute system, integration, regression and end-to-end testing across upstream and downstream services
- Plan and execute API performance, load, stress and endurance testing using Apache JMeter




- Use SQL to reconcile API results against backend databases and validate data integrity
- Manage defects through investigation, root-cause analysis, re-testing and resolution
- Maintain test traceability, documentation and reporting across the delivery lifecycle
- Collaborate closely with developers, business analysts, vendors and stakeholders within an Agile delivery environment
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing tools, processes and automation practices

Skills & Qualifications:

- 5+ years' experience as a Test Analyst or Senior Test Analyst within complex technology and integration environments
- Strong hands-on experience testing REST APIs
- Strong API functional testing experience using Swagger.io, Bruno and SOAP UI
- Experience analysing legacy SOAP services and validating migration to REST APIs
- Strong Java-based automation experience using frameworks such as TestNG
- Experience with Apache JMeter for API performance and load testing
- Strong SQL and database testing capability, including validation of API data against backend databases
- Solid understanding of JSON, XML, REST principles, SOAP services, HTTP methods and HTTP status codes
- Strong defect analysis, troubleshooting, problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills




- Experience working within Agile or Scrum delivery environments
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, consulting and facilitation skills
- Highly regarded: experience testing APIs integrated with core banking platforms
- Highly regarded: banking or financial services experience
- Highly regarded: CI/CD pipelines, automated test execution and Git/version control experience
- Degree in a relevant discipline and/or formal software testing or quality assurance certification
