Apple Foundation Program: Design Mentors – City Campus Perth

Join the brand-new Apple Foundation Program at Edith Cowan University!

Edith Cowan University, in partnership with Apple, are looking to create a highly motivated and hands-on mentoring team, who specialise in dynamic design thinking and Apple-based technical expertise, within the newly formed Apple Foundation Program.

You will work with the Apple Foundation Program Coordinator to facilitate and establish this current active learning experience for aspiring students within the Apple Foundation Program. This immersive, hands-on Challenge-Based Learning curriculum introduces participants to the creative and unique potential of Apple technologies, alongside design thinking, coding, prototyping and collaborative teamwork. As a mentor, you must be willing to engage with Challenge-Based Learning teaching strategies and non-traditional pedagogy. We are looking to recruit Mentors who bring agility and dedication to the role.

Overview

This role sits within The School of Arts and Humanities which is one of the largest at ECU with diverse disciplines arranged into three clusters: Creative Humanities; Psychology, Counselling and Criminology; and Social Sciences, Social Work and Youth Work. The school has more than 140 academic and professional staff operating across three campuses, as well as teaching offshore in Sri Lanka, and is a leader in online education. The Role





The overall engagement will run across a 12-month period, with the required hours varying throughout the year in line with scheduled teaching commitments and other activities.

The expected commitment and timing will be discussed and a calendar of anticipated teaching and activity dates will be shared with you so you have clear visibility of the requirements across the engagement period.

$56.44 per hour, Casual loadings will apply as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in UX and UI design (ideally, for mobile application use), with fundamental design thinking expertise and experience in coaching or mentoring.

Key Qualifications

- A dynamic personality with enthusiasm and energy.
- Proven experience in empowering students to reach their full potential.
- Interest and/or experience in Challenge Based Learning, experiential learning, active learning or Inquiry-Based Learning is a plus.
- A passion to challenge the status quo and to experiment with design thinking practices.
- Strong understanding of UI fundamentals (such as user experience, the importance of context, the iOS), Human Interface Guidelines and the UX Process (user research, empathy and understanding, personas, user stories, prototyping).
- Demonstrated ability to engage students with design fundamentals (composition, colour theories, typography).
- Familiarity with design thinking,



lateral thinking and related ideation frameworks a bonus.
- Master’s degree and/or industry equivalent experience highly desirable.
