Are you an experienced fleet or asset management leader who enjoys working with people, solving practical problems and making a real contribution to Victoria’s emergency management capability? The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking an Asset Manager – Fleet to help lead the management, performance and continuous improvement of critical fleet assets that support Forest Fire Management Victoria and broader emergency management operations. This is a hands-on leadership role in a collaborative, purpose-driven workplace where your work will directly support the people, systems and equipment needed to keep Victoria ready, safe and resilient.
About the role
As Asset Manager – Fleet, you will lead the planning, governance and operational performance of fleet assets across their lifecycle. You will work closely with operational teams, asset managers, procurement, commercial specialists, suppliers and regional stakeholders to ensure fleet assets are safe, reliable, fit for purpose and value for money.You will provide clear advice, strengthen asset management discipline, support maintenance and compliance arrangements, and help drive practical improvements across fleet planning, reporting, utilisation, risk management and replacement scheduling.

What you will bring
You will have experience in fleet, heavy vehicle,
transport, asset management or a related operational environment, along with strong leadership, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills. You will be comfortable working in a complex environment, balancing strategic planning with practical delivery. You will also bring: demonstrated experience managing fleet or operational assets across their lifecycle strong planning, governance, reporting and risk management capability the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers and operational stakeholders sound judgement, commercial awareness and a focus on value for money a practical, improvement-focused approach to safety, compliance and service delivery the ability to lead, coach and support others in a busy operational environment.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Proven successful project management delivery experience
- Proven sustained success in the development and governance of AMAF-aligned asset class plans, oversee lifecycle, maintenance and statutory compliance, and translate performance, risk and financial insights into clear executive advice.
- Proven successful experiences and capabilities managing asset classes with a particular emphasis on vehicles / heavy vehicles
- Relevant degree / diploma / trade qualification is required.
- Forklift licence (LF) and/or willingness to obtain if required.
- Current driver licence appropriate to the fleet (and ability to obtain higher class licence if required).
This is an ongoing position.
The work location for this position is Kyle Road, Altona North.
