Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and driving community behavioural change?
A local council north of Melbourne is seeking a dynamic Waste Education Officer to lead our environmental education and waste transformation initiatives.
Waste Education Officer
Key Responsibilities
As the Waste Education Officer, you will be responsible for leading and reviewing our waste and environment education programs.
Your role includes strategic planning, program development, and hands-on delivery:
Formulate a strategic programto manage and implement waste and workplace education.
Conduct a comprehensive reviewof the previous 5 years of the community education program.
Develop a new education programfor the upcoming 5-year period.
Evaluate and develop strategies,processes, and activities to maximise uptake of waste services within the community.
Develop and foster positive relationshipswith both internal and external stakeholders
Deliver presentationsto schools, kindergartens, and other interested community groups.
Write newslettersand develop social media posts advertising waste services.
Review kerbside audit dataand respond to contamination issues.
Action bin tagging programand contact residents.
Coordinate and liaisewith key stakeholders to deliver the program to the community and businesses.
Respond to general enquiriesregarding the program.




Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
Degree or equivalent qualificationin education, extension, environmental management, and/or science or similar.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledgeof education and behavioural change programs, including their development and implementation.
Sound knowledge of current Resource Recovery and Waste Management Strategies and best practicein waste management and resource recovery.
Key Selection Criteria
Relevant qualifications and experience.
Experience in the development and implementation of education programsrelated to environmental/waste management, including working with the community.
Experience developing resourcesrelated to the implementation of education programs and/or environmental/waste management projects or programs.
Ability to foster positive relationshipswith a wide range of stakeholders to achieve win-win outcomes, includingexcellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge and understanding of current business practicesrelating to waste and environment programs.
