About the Role
An industry-leading manufacturing company based inSomertonis seeking an experienced, high-performingWorkshop Supervisorwith aBoilermaker trade backgroundto lead shop floor operations.
You will oversee daily structural steel fabrication workflows, maintain strict quality control, and directly lead a dedicated workforce of up to 20 fabricators, welders, and tradespeople.
This role bridges technical problem-solving with high-level team management, ensuring projects deliver on time, within budget, and to standard.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:Direct, motivate, and manage daily activities for a workshop team of up to 20 tradespeople and support staff.
Production & Scheduling:Coordinate daily workshop workflows, track production targets, and optimize material flow across structural steel fabrication lines.
Quality Control:Ensure all fabrication and welding outputs comply with technical drawings, client specifications, and Australian Standards (AS/NZS ****).
EHS & Safety Management:Drive a proactive safety culture, conduct daily toolbox talks, enforce PPE policy, and manage site hazard assessments.
Technical Guidance:Read and interpret complex structural shop drawings; provide hands-on technical guidance and troubleshooting on the floor.
Resource Allocation:Oversee machinery maintenance,



tool inventory, consumable management, and workshop housekeeping.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Trade Qualification:Cert III in Engineering – Fabrication (Boilermaker / Heavy Fabrication background required).
Leadership Track Record:Proven experience supervising and coordinating large workshop teams (up to 20 people).
Minimum 5 years leadership experience.
Structural Steel Expertise:Deep knowledge of heavy structural steel fabrication and welding processes.
Technical Literacy:Advanced capability in reading technical structural design blueprints and fabrication drawings.
Safety First Mindset:Comprehensive understanding of Victorian OHS standards and proactive risk mitigation.
Communication:Strong interpersonal skills with a practical, collaborative, and explicit management approach.
