The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated
Trades Assistant
to join our Service team in Somerton. Reporting to the Service Manager, this hands-on role supports our tradespeople across day-to-day workshop operations and provides rare exposure to industry-leading earthmoving equipment.
This is an excellent entry point for
Light Vehicle Mechanics wanting to transition into Heavy Diesel.
For the right candidate, we offer structured training, OEM-led learning, and genuine upskilling pathways into a Heavy Diesel Mechanic position.
Key responsibilities include:
Assist qualified tradespeople with repairs, maintenance, and equipment setups
Support work scheduling, job preparation, and basic documentation
Handle materials, tooling, and workshop equipment safely
Perform general housekeeping to maintain a safe and organised workspace
Complete required reports and paperwork in a timely manner
Assist with servicing and maintaining rental fleet equipment under guidance
What we're looking for:
Previous experience as a Trades Assistant
or
a qualified Light Vehicle mechanic with a strong interest in progressing toward Heavy Diesel Qualifications
Previous hand and power tooling experience
Robust mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Ability to work autonomously and within a team
Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and customer service etiquette
