Naan Sense Indian Diner is a recently renovated restaurant in the heart of Newtown, bringing authentic Indian flavors and warm hospitality to the local community.
With over 35 years of culinary tradition, we specialize in traditional Indian cuisine crafted using time-honored techniques and quality ingredients.
From slow-cooked curries to freshly prepared tandoor naan, we are passionate about delivering flavors that celebrate the true essence of Indian cooking.
We are looking for a talented and passionate Chef to join our team and be part of a kitchen that values authenticity, quality, and creativity.
Some of the duties and responsibility are: Plan and develop authentic Indian menus, including traditional dishes, seasonal specials, and creative offerings that reflect the flavours and heritage of Indian cuisine.
Prepare and cook a wide range of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, naan, sauces, chutneys, marinades, and other specialty dishes.
Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and quality across all dishes while maintaining the restaurant's authentic flavours and standards.
Create special menu items, promotional dishes, and themed-day food specials to attract customers and enhance the dining experience.
Manage kitchen inventory control, including monitoring stock levels of spices, fresh produce, meat, and other ingredients, reducing wastage, and coordinating timely supply orders.
Estimate food and labour costs while maintaining efficient kitchen operations and cost control.
Prepare spice blends, sauces, marinades, and base gravies using traditional Indian cooking techniques.
Monitor food preparation and presentation at every stage to ensure high standards of quality and consistency.
Train and guide kitchen staff on Indian cooking techniques, preparation methods, food safety, and hygiene practices.
Work closely with Managers and kitchen teams to improve menu offerings and maintain smooth daily operations.
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health regulations.
Assist with food preservation, storage procedures, and proper handling of ingredients to maintain freshness and quality.
Qualifications and Skills Minimum 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.
Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
Experience in Indian cuisine or a robust understanding of Indian cooking techniques, ingredients, and preparation methods is highly desirable.
Ability to prepare and cook a variety of dishes while maintaining consistent quality, taste, and presentation standards.
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations, and safe kitchen practices.
Experience with food preparation, stock control, ordering, and minimising food wastage.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house teams.
