About the role
Benalla Rural City Council is seeking a
Resilient Community Officer
to join our Community Services & Development team.
This is a
part time position
based in
Benalla, VIC ****
.
In this role, you will play a vital part in strengthening community resilience and supporting local initiatives that enhance the wellbeing of our residents.
You will work collaboratively across the council and with external partners to identify community needs, develop programmes, and implement strategies that foster a more resilient, connected and thriving community.
Key responsibilities
Build positive relationships with CFA brigades, residents, community groups and local leaders.
With the support of the key stakeholders identify four rural communities to target.
Facilitate community-led conversations that support bushfire preparedness and resilience.
Encourage participation from diverse community members and support inclusive engagement.
Support project delivery as identified through community-led conversations and key stakeholder engagement e.g. local workshops in partnership with CFA.
Connect communities with relevant agencies, programs and resources that strengthen sustained resilience.
Maintain accurate records of project activities.
Contribute to quarterly progress reporting and project documentation as required under the funding agreement.
Key selection criteria (this must be addressed when submitting application)
Experience (paid or volunteer) in community engagement, customer service or working with community groups, including rural communities or volunteer‐based organisations.
Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work within set timeframes, with guidance where required.
Ability to support community‐led activities such as workshops and discussions.
Problem solving and sound judgement with the ability to successfully overcome hurdles.
Ability to keep a project on track to meet grant funding outcomes.
An Understanding of bushfire preparedness, resilience or emergency management

What we're looking for
Degree or Diploma in community development, emergency management, social sciences, communications, or a related field with little or no experience; OR a lesser formal qualification with relevant skills and capability
Experience (paid or volunteer) in community engagement, customer service or working with community groups, including rural communities or volunteer‐based organisations.
Skills in building relationships, supporting participation and effective communication.
