Are you an experienced nursing leader with a passion for oncology, clinical research and building high-performing teams?
We are partnering with a leading clinical research organisation seeking an accomplished Nurse Unit Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a specialised Cancer Clinical Trials Unit.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior nurse leader to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes while overseeing the safe and effective delivery of cutting-edge cancer clinical trials.
About the Opportunity Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Nurse Unit Manager will provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership to a multidisciplinary nursing team responsible for delivering complex oncology clinical trials.
The role is accountable for maintaining the highest standards of participant safety, clinical governance, regulatory compliance and operational performance.
You will play a key role in leading nursing staff, supporting study delivery, managing resources, fostering stakeholder relationships and driving continuous improvement across the unit.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership Operations Provide day-to-day clinical and operational leadership for the nursing team.
Ensure the safe delivery of patient care in accordance with study protocols, clinical standards, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Maintain oversight of staffing levels, rostering, workforce planning and skill mix requirements.
Support patient flow, workload prioritisation and effective clinical service delivery.
Lead daily operational meetings, team huddles and communication forums.
Escalate operational risks, patient safety concerns and workforce issues appropriately.
Provide visible leadership, guidance, coaching and support to nursing staff.
Ensure appropriate delegation,



accountability and workload distribution across the team.
Actively contribute to clinical trial feasibility assessments, study start-up activities and protocol execution.
Clinical Governance Quality Maintain oversight of all clinical trial activities to ensure compliance with ICH-GCP, protocol requirements, regulatory obligations and organisational procedures.
Monitor incidents, complaints, risks and quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with clinical documentation standards, medication safety requirements and governance frameworks.
Support audit readiness and continuous improvement activities.
Promote a culture of quality, safety and best-practice clinical research standards.
People Leadership Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing nursing team.
Support onboarding, orientation and competency development of new staff.
Manage performance concerns and support employee development through established leadership frameworks.
Participate in recruitment, workforce planning and succession planning activities.
Foster a positive, collaborative and patient-focused team culture.
Stakeholder Management Build strong relationships with participants, sponsors, investigators, physicians and external stakeholders.
Collaborate effectively with medical, allied health, research, operational and executive teams.
Represent the organisation professionally during sponsor visits, monitoring activities and audits.
Provide regular operational updates, risk reporting and performance insights to senior leadership.
Financial Resource Management Contribute to budget management and resource planning activities.




Monitor resource utilisation and operational expenditure.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies while maintaining service quality and participant safety.
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring: Essential Requirements Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
Previous leadership experience in a Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Team Leader, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Coordinator or equivalent senior nursing role.
Demonstrated experience leading teams within a complex healthcare or clinical research workplace.
Strong knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and patient safety frameworks.
Experience managing competing priorities and making timely operational decisions.
Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience supporting quality improvement, service optimisation and operational excellence.
Highly Regarded Experience within oncology, cancer services or clinical research.
Previous responsibility for workforce management, budgets and operational performance.
Experience leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Exposure to sponsor-facing clinical trial environments.
Working knowledge of clinical trial regulations, research governance and ICH-GCP principles.
Chemotherapy administration accreditation.
Competency in CVAD and PICC line management.
