Role

Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons,



observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning.Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.

The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership (VTLM 2.0)

¿ Actively contribute as a member of the MEC Leadership Team, including participation in Leadership, and Teaching and Learning implementation Team meetings. ¿ Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop, implement, and monitor school priorities aligned to the SSP and AIP. ¿ Lead the implementation and consistent application of the Victorian Teaching and ¿ Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0), ¿ Work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning and relevant Leading Teachers to align instructional practices with school priorities. ¿ Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal in alignment with the role and school priorities

Coaching and Skilled Practice

¿ Model high-quality, evidence-based instructional practices in classrooms. ¿ Conduct regular coaching cycles including observation, feedback, and mentoring to improve teacher practice. ¿ Support graduate teachers and new staff through targeted coaching and induction processes. ¿ Provide ongoing, differentiated support to build teacher capacity across Years 7¿12.

Professional Learning

¿ Design and deliver high-impact qualified learning aligned to VTLM 2.0. ¿ Facilitate collaborative staff learning, reflection, and peer discussion. ¿ Build staff understanding of supported application, inclusion, and adjustments for diverse learners. ¿ Lead and coordinate Learning Walks, instructional rounds, and other cooperative inquiry processes. ¿ Utilise supportive technologies (e.g. SWIVL) to enhance observation and feedback practices. ¿ Provide structured feedback to individuals and teams to strengthen instructional consistency and effectiveness.

Data-Informed Improvement

¿ Use student learning data to identify trends, priorities, and areas for instructional improvement. ¿ Support staff to use data effectively to inform planning, teaching, and assessment practices.



¿ Monitor and evaluate the impact of teaching programs and interventions on student outcomes

Curriculum, Assessment and Inclusion

¿ Support the development and implementation of high-quality curriculum and assessment practices. ¿ Promote consistent instructional approaches across KLAs. ¿ Support inclusive practices, ensuring supported application and adjustments for diverse learners.

Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
