The Opportunity
The Insights and Analytics Unit (IAU) provides strategic data, analytics and business intelligence that supports evidence-based decision making across the University. We are seeking a highly analytical and team-oriented Data Scientist to join the team on a casual basis, providing specialist expertise in student demand forecasting, enrolment modelling and strategic data analysis. Working with stakeholders across the University, you will develop sophisticated forecasting models, deliver meaningful insights from complex datasets and support strategic planning through high-quality analysis, reporting and data visualisation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to institutional planning and help shape data-informed decisions that support UniSC's future growth.
- Develop and implement sophisticated demand forecasting, student load and scenario modelling tools.
- Prepare student load and income estimates, provide advice on funding models and submit required estimates to the Australian Government.
- Partner with stakeholders to analyse complex datasets and deliver strategic insights, reporting and data visualisations that support planning and decision‑making.
About you
You are an experienced data professional who enjoys solving complex problems and transforming data into meaningful insights. You combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills,
enabling you to confidently present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences. You thrive in a collaborative environment, build strong stakeholder relationships and are committed to delivering accurate, high-quality analytical outcomes.
- Postgraduate qualifications in computing, mathematics, statistics, data science or a related discipline, together with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and professional experience.
- Extensive experience in advanced data analysis, statistical modelling, forecasting and data visualisation, with the ability to translate complex information into actionable insights.
- Demonstrated programming expertise using tools such as SQL, Python and/or R, together with strong experience using Microsoft technologies including Power BI.
- Extensive experience maintaining data quality, validation and governance processes to ensure the integrity and reliability of organisational data.
- Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work both independently and collaboratively, and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes.
- Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports,
present findings and build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Desirable: experience within the higher education sector, including knowledge of student funding models, enrolment planning and issues impacting Australian universities.
