About the program

Building Bridges is our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led reintegration program, funded under the Queensland Justice Reinvestment Framework. It provides wrap-around, culturally grounded support to help people transition safely from custody back into community — reducing re-offending and building real pathways to employment, housing, health and cultural connection.

About the role

This is a frontline role for someone who wants to make a difference in people's lives. As a Support Worker, you’ll walk alongside participants as they reintegrate into the community — offering mentoring, encouragement and practical, day-to-day support. You’ll help run our group sessions, connect people to culture, Elders and services, and be a steady, trusted presence. Lived experience of the justice system is genuinely valued in this role.

What you'll do

- Provide day-to-day support, mentoring and accompaniment to participants navigating reintegration.
- Help people get to appointments, services and group sessions — including transport where needed.
- Support our weekly group sessions: the Men's Shed, Men's and Women's Groups, the Reducing Demand Program and Elder-led cultural healing.
- Connect participants to culture, Elders,



family and community.
- Support people with housing, health and employment steps alongside the Coordinator.
- Record your work accurately so we can show the difference we’re making.

What you'll bring

- Experience in support work, case work, community services or outreach — especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- An understanding of cultural safety and trauma-informed care.
- Warm, respectful communication and the ability to build trust.
- The ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for records and reports.

Nice to have: Lived experience of the justice system and reintegration; a Certificate III/IV in community services or similar; and knowledge of local Mount Isa services. A prior record will not automatically rule you out — we assess each application on its merits.

You will also need: a current Queensland Driver's Licence, a Working with Children Check (Blue Card), and the willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
