Functions Manager / Assistant Venue Manager

Holy Ship – Marina Mirage, Main Beach, Gold Coast

Holy Ship is looking for an energetic, experienced and commercially minded Functions Manager / Assistant Venue Manager to join our team at our unique waterfront restaurant and events venue at Marina Mirage.

This is a hands-on operational role for someone who is equally comfortable running a busy venue, leading staff and looking after customers as they are getting out there and generating new functions, events and business.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership, sees opportunities and makes things happen.

The Role

Working closely with the Venue Manager and owners, you will have two key areas of responsibility:

Venue Management

- Manage the venue and team when the Venue Manager is rostered off or unavailable

- Lead front-of-house operations and ensure a high standard of customer service

- Coordinate staff, service flow and day-to-day venue operations

- Assist with rostering, staff training and performance

- Handle customer enquiries, bookings and issues professionally

- Ensure the venue is presented and operating at a high standard

- Work hands-on alongside the team during busy periods

- Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling and general venue management

- Help drive sales, customer satisfaction and repeat business

Functions & Business Development

- Take ownership of function and event enquiries from initial contact through to completion

- Actively seek out new function and event business rather than simply waiting for enquiries to come in

- Develop relationships with local businesses, corporate clients, event organisers, tourism operators and community groups

- Generate new opportunities for corporate events, birthdays, celebrations, weddings, Christmas parties, networking events and private functions

- Conduct venue inspections and meet prospective function clients

- Prepare function proposals and follow up leads





- Maintain a pipeline of prospective function customers and proactively follow up opportunities

- Work with management, kitchen and operations teams to ensure functions are planned and delivered successfully

- Identify opportunities to bring additional customers and revenue into the venue

- Help promote Holy Ship as one of the Gold Coast's most unique waterfront function destinations

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

- Experienced in hospitality, restaurants, bars, functions or event management

- Confident managing a venue and team independently

- Highly organised and capable of managing multiple bookings and priorities

- Strong with customers and comfortable building relationships

- Sales-focused and confident approaching potential clients

- Proactive — you don't wait for the phone to ring

- Commercially minded and understands that outstanding hospitality and strong sales go hand in hand

- Comfortable following up leads and asking for the business

- Reliable, professional and capable of taking ownership

- Willing to work evenings, weekends and functions as required

- Someone who genuinely enjoys being involved in the day-to-day operation rather than managing from an office

Previous experience in functions, events, hospitality sales or business development will be highly regarded.
