About Us
ABC Container Hire & Sales is growing.
We’re taking on bigger projects, producing better work and expanding our capabilities. Our Hemmant workshop handles everything from container repairs and complete repaints to structural modifications, custom builds and branded finishes.
We have momentum, ambition and plenty of work ahead of us. What we need now is another strong operator who wants to help push the business forward.
The Role
We’re seeking an experienced, reliable Shipping Container Painter & Repairer to join our Hemmant workshop team who turns up ready to work, takes ownership of their jobs and genuinely cares about the finished product.
This is not a role where you simply pick up a spray gun and throw paint at a container.
A professional finish starts with proper preparation. That means washing, sanding, grinding, treating rust, masking, priming, spraying, touching up and cleaning down. It means inspecting your own work and fixing problems before someone else has to point them out.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing shipping containers and other steel surfaces for painting
- Washing, sanding, grinding, masking, rust treating and priming
- Applying interior and exterior coatings using airless spray equipment
- Completing full repaints, custom colours and customer branding work
- Repairing holes, damaged steel, seals and weatherproofing
- Assisting with doors, vents, frames, trims and container modifications
- Supporting our welding and fabrication team when required
- Maintaining painting equipment and keeping work areas under control
- Taking responsibility for jobs from preparation through to completion
Quality Control & Customer Outcomes
- Ensure finished work meets ABC standards and customer expectations.
- Work safely and efficiently in a busy workshop environment.
You’ll thrive in this role if you are someone who:
- Can work as a part of a cohesive team
- Takes safety seriously
- Turns up consistently and is ready to work
- Knows the difference between being present and being productive
- Takes pride in doing a job properly
- Can work without needing to be continually chased
- Sees what needs doing and gets moving
- Understands that preparation determines the quality of the finish
- Accepts feedback without excuses or defensiveness
- Fixes mistakes and learns from them
- Supports the people working alongside them
- Wants to become an important part of a growing business
Experience painting shipping containers, machinery, structural steel, trucks, trailers or other industrial surfaces would be ideal.
Experience with welding, fabrication, repairs or container modifications will be highly regarded. If industrial painting is your strength and you are willing to learn the rest, we still want to hear from you.
This is physical, hands-on industrial work.
It can be hot, dirty, noisy and repetitive. Containers do not arrive perfectly prepared and ready for paint. Some need serious cleaning, grinding, rust treatment and repair before the spray gun comes out.
There will be straightforward jobs, difficult jobs and days when everyone needs to dig in and help get a project across the line.
We understand that people get sick and that life occasionally gets in the way. What we will not accept is a constant pattern of unexplained absences, excuses, poor communication and other people being left to carry the workload.
You Need Not Apply If:
- Monday morning regularly catches you by surprise
- You treat sick leave as additional annual leave
- There is always a recent excuse for why you cannot make it to work
- You spend more energy avoiding work than completing it
- You only want to spray paint and consider preparation, repairs or lending a hand to a teammate beneath you
- You need someone standing over you to remain productive
- “That’ll do” is your usual quality standard
- You blame your tools, the job or your teammates whenever something goes wrong
- You leave unfinished work and mess behind for somebody else
- You want the security of a growing business without contributing to its growth
ABC is expanding and doing bigger and better work.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to come into a growing workshop, make an immediate impact and build a genuine place for yourself within the business.
We value people who are dependable, capable and willing to take ownership. If you consistently turn up, produce quality work and help move the team forward, your contribution will be noticed.
We do not need a passenger.
We need someone who wants to grab hold of the cart, push hard and help us take this workshop to the next level.
If you’re ready to turn up and crush it, apply now.
