About the role

Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Children's Contact Services Family Support Worker to join our Townsville team on a casual basis and deliver high-quality, child-focused services that support separated families. This role is responsible for facilitating safe and supported contact between children and their parent or carer, particularly in situations where contact has been ordered or agreed upon but cannot occur independently due to safety concerns, high conflict, or communication difficulties.

As a casual team member, you will play an important role in supporting service delivery by providing flexibility and stepping in as needed to assist the team. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, can adapt to changing operational needs, and is committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and families.

In this role, you will apply your knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and trauma-informed practice to assess suitability for services, ensure the safety of all parties, and maintain a positive,



respectful environment for child-parent contact. You will also gather and share the voice of the child, contribute to case planning and review, and ensure all legislative and organisational requirements are met.

This is a highly rewarding role for a practitioner who is passionate about supporting the best interests of children, while navigating complex family dynamics with empathy, professionalism, and care.

Additionally, you will:

- Conduct intake assessments and parent interviews, including safety screenings and familiarisation sessions for children.
- Facilitate supervised contact visits and changeovers in a safe, neutral environment that supports children’s emotional wellbeing and developmental needs.
- Meet with children where appropriate to gain feedback and inform planning.
- Monitor risk, responding to issues as they arise, and escalating safety concerns in line with policy and legislative requirements.
- Maintain accurate case notes, assessments, and client files using internal systems.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including legal and child protection services, where required.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and professional development to support continuous improvement in service delivery.

About you

You appreciate the flexibility of casual employment and enjoy supporting a team in delivering important services to the community when needed. You are a calm, confident, and child-focused practitioner with a strong understanding of child development, family conflict, and trauma-informed care.



You are passionate about creating safe spaces for children and families navigating challenging transitions.

Additionally, you have:

- Tertiary qualifications in social or behavioural sciences, with studies in child development.
- Experience working with children and families, including those affected by domestic and family violence, separation, or conflict.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Family Law Act and child protection frameworks.
- Senior First Aid/CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Well-developed risk assessment and case management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and uphold the values and ethics of RAQ

This role is an RAQ EA level 4 (casual rate from $58/hour).
