Hands-On Depot Supervisor / Manager – Containers for Change

Location: Brisbane QLD
Job Type: Full Time
Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 + superannuation, depending on experience and capability

Lead a Local Brisbane Recycling Operation

We are looking for a hands-on Depot Supervisor or Manager to join our busy Containers for Change depot in Brisbane.

This is a genuine leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems and being involved in the day-to-day operation.

The position level will depend on your experience, leadership capability and ability to take ownership. We are open to appointing a strong supervisor or an experienced operational manager.

About Us

We are a local Brisbane depot supporting the community and environment through container recycling.

Our depot operates as a manual counting facility. We have approximately 12 employees in total, including 4 full-time and 8–9 casual employees.

On a typical operating day, you will coordinate and manage approximately 5–7 employees on site, working closely with two Site Leads/Supervisors who support daily operations and report to you.

This is a practical, fast-paced environment — not a desk-based management role.

About the Role

You will help lead the overall day-to-day operation of the depot while working alongside the team on the floor.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading and supporting two Site Leads/Supervisors.

- Coordinating approximately 5–7 employees on a typical day.

- Overseeing the broader team of approximately 12 employees across the roster.

- Working alongside the team on the depot floor.

- Sorting, counting and handling containers and moving crates and bins.

- Managing daily workflow, productivity and staffing requirements.

- Supporting staff performance, training and development.

- Managing customer service and resolving customer issues.

- Supporting commercial customers and drive-through collections.

- Conducting daily safety checks and toolbox talks.

- Maintaining WHS standards and a safe working environment.

- Monitoring operational KPIs and identifying opportunities for improvement.

- Using computers, tablets and operational systems.

- Assisting with rosters, attendance and general administration.

- Taking ownership of problems and finding practical solutions.

The Person We Are Looking For
Character Comes First

High moral standards, honesty,

reliability and a strong work ethic are essential.

This is a position of trust, and we are looking for someone who:

- Leads by example.

- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.

- Is trustworthy, honest and accountable.

- Treats customers and staff with respect.

- Can make sound decisions independently.

- Is energetic, practical and willing to get involved.

- Takes pride in doing a valuable job.

- Maintains high standards even when the depot is busy.

- Is willing to work alongside the team rather than simply supervise from a distance.

Experience & Skills

You will ideally have:

- Previous experience supervising or managing a team.

- Experience managing permanent and casual employees.

- Strong communication and people-management skills.

- Experience in warehouse, logistics, recycling, manufacturing, retail or a similar operational environment.

- Good computer and technology skills.

- An understanding of WHS and workplace safety.

- Strong customer service skills.

- The physical capability to perform hands-on manual work.

- The ability to prioritise tasks and remain calm in a busy operational environment.

Highly Regarded

The following qualifications, licences and experience will be highly regarded:

- Forklift licence and practical forklift experience

- First Aid certification

- Current Australian driver's licence

- Experience driving a truck or van under 4.5 tonnes

- Experience with rostering and staff performance management

- Experience conducting safety inspections and toolbox talks

- Experience monitoring KPIs, productivity and operational performance

You do not need previous Containers for Change experience.

We are more interested in finding the right person with the right attitude, leadership ability, integrity and work ethic.

Working Hours

Our depot operates Monday to Saturday.

The preferred working arrangement is:

- Monday to Friday

- Approximately 7:30am – 4:30pm

- 40 hours per week

- Approximately 2 hours of overtime included within the 40-hour working week

Our two Site Leads/Supervisors currently take turns covering Saturdays.

The successful candidate will normally work Monday to Friday. However, occasional Saturday work may be required to cover leave, staff shortages or operational requirements.

Our depot is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

We aim to provide a stable Monday–Friday working arrangement wherever possible while maintaining the flexibility required to operate a 6-day-a-week depot.

What We Offer

- $80,000 – $100,000 + superannuation, depending on experience and capability.

- Predominantly Monday–Friday working arrangement.

- Sundays and public holidays off.

- Genuine leadership responsibility.

- Work alongside two Site Leads/Supervisors.

- A practical, active and hands-on working environment.

- Opportunity to contribute to the local community and environment.

- Opportunity to improve and develop the operation.

- Potential to progress into a broader Depot Manager / Operations role based on performance and capability.

Supervisor or Manager?

We are not simply looking to fill a job title.

If you have strong supervisory experience and the right leadership potential, we may appoint you as Depot Supervisor.

If you have the experience and capability to independently lead the broader operation, we may appoint you at Depot Manager level.

The position level and remuneration will be determined based on your experience, capability, leadership skills and ability to take ownership of the operation.

We are looking for someone who can grow with the business.

Why This Role?

This role is ideal for someone who wants more than a traditional office-based management position.

You will be visible, involved and hands-on, working directly with your team while having genuine responsibility for the daily operation.

You will have the chance to:

- Lead and develop a team.

- Improve operational efficiency.

- Build a strong workplace culture.

- Support the local community.

- Contribute to environmental sustainability.

- Develop into a broader management role as your capability grows.

Apply Now

If you are a hands-on leader with integrity, energy, strong work ethic and a genuine willingness to get involved, we would like to hear from you.

Please submit your resume outlining your relevant leadership, operational and customer service experience.

We are looking for someone we can trust, rely on and grow with.
