Overview

We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Donor Engagement Volunteer to join our vibrant team for one day per week in our Sydney office. As a Donor Engagement Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our supporters feel valued and appreciated.

About the Role

As part of our Philanthropy and Donor Engagement team you will help nurture meaningful, long‑term relationships with our generous supporters. Your warm and friendly demeanor will help make them feel like an integral part of our community.

You will be the first point of contact for many of our supporters, providing them with the information and assistance they need, and ensuring their experience with us is positive and rewarding. This role is centred on ensuring supporters feel genuinely valued, informed, and connected to the impact of their generosity.

Volunteer Responsibilities

- Make outbound thank‑you phone calls to supporters (no fundraising involved)
- Send handwritten thank‑you notes and cards to donors
- Engage donors in light conversation to understand why they support Opportunity and what causes they care about
- Conduct follow‑up calls for event invitations (where applicable).
- Make phone calls and/or send letters to follow up on monthly giving credit card failures.
- Record donor interactions accurately in Raiser’s Edge NXT
- Follow up Returned‑to‑Sender (RTS) mail by calling donors to update postal address and contact details
- Assist with updating bounced email addresses and other supporter information.
- Prepare and send welcome packs to new donors.

- Provide additional administrative assistance to the Fundraising and Supporter Engagement team as required.

Requirements

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A friendly and approachable demeanour with a passion for helping others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in customer service, administration, or supporter care (paid or volunteer) is desirable.
- Attention to detail and respect for confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to learn donor management systems (Raiser’s Edge NXT experience is advantageous but not required).
- A commitment to our organization's mission and values.
- Willingness to obtain an Australian police clearance certificate.

Diversity and Equal Prospect Statement

Opportunity International Australia believes a diverse workplace is a happy workplace and encourages applications from people of all different backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from CALD backgrounds and people with disabilities. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, marital or parental status. Should you require a reasonable accommodation to be made for your application to be assessed, Opportunity would be more than happy to discuss how that can be arranged.
