Overview

The Managing Director (MD), Development will be the primary prospect and donor manager in Greater New Orleans and support work across the state of Louisiana. The MD is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and managing a portfolio of donors in Louisiana who share our commitment to ensuring that all children have access to an excellent education. As a member of the Field Fundraising team, the MD will help develop and execute a long‑term vision and strategy to achieve development goals for both public and private funding, partnering with Executive Directors, advisory board members, and other fundraisers to maximize giving over the next 3‑5 years.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage, cultivate, solicit, and steward 50% of a donor portfolio, collaborating with the Executive Director and other leadership to set a local fundraising vision and execute a comprehensive plan.
- Design and execute 20% of engagement opportunities to move donors and prospects through the lifecycle, including donor newsletters and stewardship events such as school visits and corporate lunch & learns.
- Work 20% of the time with the local Executive Director and team to advance fundraising, focusing on new donor strategy and acquisition.
- Maintain 5% of the role required for consistent entry of donor, prospect, and fundraising activity data into the customer relationship management system, using the data to track progress and adjust strategy.
- Steward 5% of the role to support the team and organizational initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

- Relationship Building and Management:




- Highly skilled at building relationships with external prospects and donors.
- Experience building and executing comprehensive relationship‑management plans across a portfolio of donors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Excellent storytelling.

- Fundraising and Development:

- Specialized in best practices of development and fundraising.
- Track record of navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals.
- Experience stewarding a diverse portfolio of donors/funders from various funding streams.
- Ability to leverage local development trends to set or adjust strategy.

- Portfolio Management:

- Set vision and direction for a local donor portfolio and independently execute strategy to maximize revenue.
- Monitor progress to ensure continuous stewardship of the portfolio.

Preferred Experience

- Knowledge and experience working in the Greater Recent Orleans philanthropic landscape.
- Teach For America development experience.
- Fundraising certification (e.g., CRFE/CRFM) and/or related Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, M, Non‑Profit Management).

Education and Experience

- Required: At least 7+ years of development and fundraising experience.
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Required: Track record of meeting and exceeding donor‑portfolio goals.

Work Demands

- Occasional weekend or evening work hours required.
- Must be able to travel locally within Louisiana to engage with donors.

Team

The Revenue and Development team at Teach For America inspires donors and champions to contribute to shaping the future of our country. This role is part of the Field Fundraising arm, maximizing contributions from local donors across multiple regions.

Compensation

The salary for this US‑based role is based on location and aligns with one of three tiers. The expected range for Tier A is $90,000 – $122,800. Final salary will depend on education, training, experience, location, and business needs.
