Two Seats. One Standard. | PREMIUM LAST MILE TEAM — FYSHWICK | IMMEDIATE START
At Forty Winks Fyshwick, we don't view our drivers as just “transport”. You are the Face of Our Business — the Last Mile Specialist who turns a purchase into a excellent night's sleep, delivered. The last mile is the final, most critical step in our customer's journey, and we treat it — and the people who deliver it — accordingly.
We are a small, tight-knit family business serving Canberra since 1988. One of our long-serving team members is leaving to chase a dream of his own, and growth has opened a second seat — so we're hiring TWO people, to one standard:
● Seat 1 — MR Driver ($67,500 + super): reserved for a current Medium Rigid licence holder (manual). The higher rate buys the business full-fleet flexibility — you can be rostered to any vehicle, including our MR Pantech. No MR? Apply anyway: if this seat isn't filled by a licensed applicant, strong manual-licence all-rounders will be considered.
● Seat 2 — Last Mile Specialist ($63,000 + super): a manual car licence is essential — hold MR and this seat pays the top of the range too.
● Both seats: the same multi-skilled role. Nobody here is “just the driver” — some days you're delivering, some days you're receiving stock in the warehouse or moving furniture on the sales floor, and driving (or any particular vehicle) isn't guaranteed daily. An LO (order picker) licence is ideal for both seats — we'll train and support the right person.
Read this before applying — we're deliberately picky:
● Our team walks into customers' homes. That trust is earned, so we check everything — licences, references, police check, punctuality — and we keep checking after you start.
● This is NOT your job if: delivery feels like “just driving”; repetitive team-lifting to 30kg (stairs included) sounds unpleasant; early starts hurt; “near enough” is your standard; or being measured bothers you.
● This IS your job if: you take real pride in doing physical work beautifully, you like customers,
and you want your effort noticed, developed and rewarded.
We measure what matters — openly: on-time delivery, damage rate and Google reviews are tracked, shared with the team and celebrated loudly when we win. High performers get new licence classes funded (an MR upgrade, LO — at our discretion) and a genuine pathway toward Team Leader; holding and renewing the licences your seat requires stays your responsibility.
The Reality of the Role (Is This You?): This is a physical, hands-on role where safety and care are paramount.
● The Muscle: you are physically fit and capable of repetitive team-lifting of items up to 30kg (mattresses and furniture), stairs included. You aren't afraid of a bit of sweat.
● The Driver: a current manual driver's licence with a safe driving record is essential for both seats. Seat 1 is reserved for a current MR holder (manual) — and MR is rewarded in Seat 2. LO is ideal for both; we'll back the right person to gain new licence classes.
● The Face: you are friendly, presentable and professional. You are the last person the customer sees, so you leave them smiling.
● The Safety Pro: Safety of People First, Safety of Product Second, Business Profitability Third — in that order, always.
What You Will Be Doing:
● Deliver the Dream: driving our fleet to customer homes, unloading with care, assembling furniture and leaving every home better than you found it.
● Master the Warehouse & Floor: receiving stock, picking and staging orders, keeping the warehouse clean, safe and organised, and supporting the sales floor with stock and display moves.
● Solve Problems: using common sense to fix delivery issues on the spot so the customer is sorted.
● Care for Homes & Planet: protecting floors and doorways, removing old bedding where booked, and recycling packaging responsibly.
The Non-Negotiables:
● Current manual driver's licence with a safe driving record (essential; Seat 1 reserved for a current MR holder).
● Full, unrestricted right to work in Australia (essential — no exceptions).
● Willingness to undergo a Police Check (essential — you're entering customer homes).
● Reliability — punctual, every shift. Customers plan their day around us.
● Occasional weekend availability with notice.
How we hire — we respect your time: short questionnaire → 15-minute meet-and-greet in store → one proper interview with a practical component → fast decision. Immediate start possible. We reply to every applicant. If you need an adjustment to any part of our process — including the application note — call or email us and we'll make it work.
How to apply (please read — this is the first test): attach a short note — three to five sentences — telling us about a delivery, service or customer moment you're genuinely proud of (any industry). Start your note with the word “Goodnight” so we know you read this far. Applications without the note won't be shortlisted — in this job, attention to detail is the job.
