The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact
As a valued member of the Criminal Law Practice, you'll lead the Moree Cluster in delivering high-quality, culturally protected criminal law services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. You'll provide expert advocacy, mentor and support your team, and strengthen access to justice through leadership, community engagement, and operational excellence. Each day, you will:

- Deliver complex criminal law services and represent Aboriginal clients across all relevant courts and tribunals.
- Manage legal operations, including workload allocation, court scheduling, external counsel, and policy implementation.
- Build strong relationships with communities and stakeholders while promoting culturally appropriate legal services.
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop legal and administrative staff to support effective service delivery.




- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to strengthen legal service delivery and organisational outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with professional, legal, ethical, and organisational standards while supporting continuous improvement.

Your Story & Strengths
You are a skilled and motivated Legal Leader who understands and respects the cultural, social, and historical context that shapes the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You bring both technical excellence and a deep commitment to community and justice. Key strengths include:

- Hold a current NSW Practising Certificate with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in criminal law, including leadership, staff supervision, workload management, and legal practice operations.
- Demonstrate extensive experience representing Aboriginal clients in criminal matters, including briefing and instructing Counsel.
- Possess strong knowledge of criminal law, legislation, case law, and court procedures to effectively advocate for Aboriginal clients.
- Exhibit excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Effectively manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently across a diverse workload.
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety,



ethical practice, diversity, and culturally responsive service delivery for Aboriginal clients and communities.
