Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor to join School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Engineering.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic with demonstrated expertise and a strong intellectual commitment to at least one of the following areas: electrical engineering and power systems or renewable energy; robotics and autonomous systems; artificial intelligence and machine learning; sensing, instrumentation, and measurement; or control systems and automation. The successful candidate will bring a track record of excellence in fundamental and/or applied research, evidenced by high-quality scholarly publications and success in securing competitive research funding commensurate with their career stage. The appointee will also contribute to teaching excellence and innovation, including curriculum development and the design of new courses, programs, and micro-credentials aligned with evolving industry and societal needs. The candidate may be required to undertake duties overseas (including in China and Asia) as part of QUT’s Transnational Education programs delivered in partnership with international institutions. Any required overseas work would generally be no longer than a 2-3 week period at any one. The appointee will also be supported to develop national and international leadership, build interdisciplinary collaborations, and establish strong partnerships with industry, government, and regulatory stakeholders to deliver real-world impact.

We’re offering this role as a hybrid position as part of QUT’s commitment to embracing the opportunities created by a more virtual and connected world.

About us

QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.

The School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics plays a significant role in almost every aspect of a modern lifestyle, supplying the energy and intelligence for the technology that helps us to manage and understand the world around us. We work to ensure safe, affordable and environmentally responsible supply and consumption of electricity. We make sense of the world’s data streaming in from cameras, devices, and sensors.

Our expertise in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Wireless Communications, Signal Processing, Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems allows us to develop systems to automatically interpret the world, its people and their activities from diverse visual and audio sources. We create cutting edge robotic systems that interact with the real world, operating autonomously in our natural and built environments to benefit industries such as health, transport, manufacturing, mining and agriculture. We are committed to the education of Electrical Engineers both as undergraduates and postgraduates, and work with partner Schools to deliver leading edge Mechatronic, Software and Aerospace Engineering education..

What you need to succeed

1. Completion of a doctoral qualification in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline - such as robotics, artificial intelligence, power systems, or control engineering - with evidence of ongoing professional and academic development.
2. Demonstrated track record of research excellence, appropriate to career stage, including high-quality publications in leading journals and conferences, success in securing competitive research funding, and the ability to develop and sustain an impactful research program aligned with School and Faculty priorities.
3. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective collaborations with academic, industry, government, and professional partners at national and/or international levels, with a demonstrated capacity to translate research into real-world impact.
4. Demonstrated alignment with and capacity to strengthen the School’s and Faculty’s research focus areas, including a willingness to actively contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and research centres.
5. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the use of innovative, student-centred, and digitally enabled pedagogies. Experience in curriculum development and a willingness to contribute to transnational education delivery, including teaching in international contexts such as China, will be highly regarded.
6. Proven ability to supervise and mentor higher degree research students and undergraduate project students, supporting high-quality outcomes and timely completion.
7.

Demonstrated capacity to contribute to academic leadership, governance, and service activities within a university workplace, and to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
