About the roleGail Freeman & Co Pty Ltd is seeking an Experienced Tax Return Preparer or Small Business Tax Accountant to join our team on a full-time basis in Kingston, ACT.
This role is pivotal to our practice, as you will be responsible for preparing accurate and compliant tax returns whilst providing strategic tax advice to our diverse client base.
Your expertise will directly contribute to client satisfaction and the growth of our taxation services.

Key responsibilities
Prepare accurate and timely individual and small business tax returns in compliance with Australian Tax Office requirements and relevant legislation
Conduct tax planning consultations to identify opportunities for tax minimisation and optimisation
Review financial records, supporting documentation and client information to ensure accuracy and completeness before lodgement
Advise small business clients on taxation obligations, including GST, payroll tax, income tax requirements and superannuation
Maintain strong relationships with clients, responding to enquiries and providing exceptional service
Stay updated with changes in tax legislation and ensure compliance with current regulations
Liaise with the Australian Tax Office on client matters, including responding to correspondence and audit enquiries
Assist with bookkeeping and financial statement preparation
Contribute to the efficient workflow of the practice and support team collaboration




What we're looking for
Proven experience as a tax return preparer or small business tax accountant, with demonstrated expertise in preparing individual and small business tax returns
Strong knowledge of Australian tax legislation, including the Income Tax Assessment Act, GST Act and relevant state-based obligations
Proficiency with tax preparation software and accounting systems (experience with MYOB, Xero or similar platforms is advantageous)
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately under deadlines, particularly during peak tax seasons
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple client matters simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients clearly
Skilled approach to client confidentiality and ethical conduct
Tertiary qualifications in accounting or taxation, or relevant qualified memberships (such as CPA Australia, Institute of Public Accountants or similar) are highly desirable
Current or recent experience in a tax accounting practice or accounting firm
