Cobb Lane is an artisan bakery located in the popular village of Yarraville, with shopfronts in Richmond Traders, South Melbourne Market and our newly opened Bennetts Lane in the CBD; operating alongside an established wholesale arm. Our reputation for delicious, hand-crafted baked goods extends throughout Melbourne and beyond. We pride ourselves on our craftsmanship, specialising in slow ferment sourdoughs and viennoiserie, using the best ingredients available.
We have established a reputation as one of Melbourne's leading artisan bakeries, providing premium baked goods to the city's most renowned venues. Your role will be an integral part of our future.
About the Role
As our Finance Manager, you will take full ownership of the day-to-day financial operations across our venues, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance and financial control. This is a hands-on role suited to a proactive and detail-oriented professional who thrives in an autonomous environment and enjoys managing the full finance function.
Working closely with our leadership team, external accountants and our consulting CFO, you will manage all finance-related activities throughout the year, including debt collection, payment processing, payroll, and year-end preparation, playing a key role in supporting the continued growth and success of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Monthly Financial reporting (management reports) for four venues, with more to come
- BAS, IAS, payroll tax, workcover compliance and lodgements
- Cash flow management and planning
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable including debt collection and payments
- Bookkeeping and payroll for approx. 100 staff
- Financial data entry and administration
- You'll be solely responsible for the management and execution of all finance related activities outside of annual tax return and annual strategic planning - i.e. it's a hands-on role with no one reporting to you
- Liaison with tax accountant for a smooth year end

Your Experience and Skills
- Accounting qualifications are a must (CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA), either completed or working towards.
- You have experience in a similar role (at least three years accounting experience). However, we are mostly looking for the right attitude and work ethic, so can support someone to grow into the role over the next 12 months, so all accounting backgrounds will be considered.
- You are comfortable working autonomously in your role - planning out your week and month to get everything done at the right time
- You can reconcile our bank account in Xero, advising on financial strategy and solving problems for other managers in the business.
- You can reconcile our Balance Sheet as well as provide insightful commentary on the P&L;.
- Updating our financial reports each month will be something you enjoy doing and love to explain to us.
- You'll be comfortable lodging BAS, payroll tax, workcover and other reports to government entities.
- You are comfortable navigating a 100-person strong payroll and the complexity that brings (we use Employment Hero)
- Your attention to detail is an absolute must

Working arrangements
- This is a full-time role with versatile working arrangements available by negotiation (within the scope of ordinary working hours). We would consider part-time (at least 0.8 FTE) for the right candidate.
- We want someone who can manage their own schedule, achieve professional goals while also supporting the operational needs of the business.
- Ideally, we would like you on site for as much time as possible to get to know our people and develop great relationships. However, we understand the demands of modern work-life balance, so we are happy to accommodate some flexibility for you to work from home.
