The Role
We are seeking an experienced FIFO Excavator Operator to join our site operations team on a 2:1 FIFO roster, working across Kalgoorlie and Leonora processing yards. This hands-on role involves cutting, processing and preparing ferrous metals and heavy equipment for recycling and transport, while assisting with broader site operations.
FIFO ex Perth, flights, accommodation and meals covered.
Multiple shifts or DIDO available for the right applicant.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and material handling equipment to safely load and unload trucks, bins and trailers
- Sort and separate scrap steel by type and grade for processing and export
- Process scrap steel using fixed balers, shear balers and other processing equipment
- Safely move, stockpile and organise scrap materials throughout the yard while maintaining a clean and safe work area
- Comply with all site and company safety requirements including hot work permits
- Conduct pre-start checks and basic maintenance on plant and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area.
Skills & Experience
- Proven excavator or material handler experience, preferably in a scrap metal, mining, recycling or industrial environment
- Experience loading and unloading trucks and handling heavy steel and scrap materials
- Experience operating or working around balers, shears or other scrap processing equipment highly regarded
- Ability to identify different grades of steel and non-ferrous metals
- Ability to work safely and efficiently, both autonomously and part of a team.
Requirements
- Valid C Class driver’s licence
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening
- Valid National Police Clearance
- Willingness to work in a high-risk environment with strict safety standards
- Availability to work a 2:1 FIFO roster, with overtime available
