Role Description This full-time Family Lawyer role (junior to senior associate level) is a hybrid position based in the Greater Sydney Area, with a mix of office-based work and some work from home. On a day-to-day basis, the lawyer will manage a family law file load, including advising on separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, property settlement, and related disputes.
Responsibilities include drafting court documents, correspondence, parenting and financial agreements, and settlement proposals, as well as appearing in court, attending conferences, and participating in negotiations and mediation.
The role involves working directly with clients to understand their needs, providing explicit, practical advice, and progressing matters efficiently and ethically. Depending on experience, the lawyer may also contribute to collaborative law matters, arbitration-related work, and wills/estate planning issues connected to family law.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and experience in core family law areas, including separation, divorce, parenting, property settlement, and parenting agreements.
- Skills in litigation and advocacy, including court appearances and drafting court documents.
- Experience in alternative dispute resolution, such as negotiations and mediation.
- Current legal qualification and admission as a Solicitor in New South Wales, with a valid NSW practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one) and High Court certificate.
- 2+ years PQE
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, straightforward advice and maintain professional, empathetic client relationships.
- Excellent file management, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small, specialist team.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, client service, and continuous professional development; experience at a family law firm.
