The Opportunity
This is far more than a traditional underwriting role. Reporting to the Head of Underwriting, you will play a key role in shaping portfolio performance, supporting strategic initiatives and developing a small underwriting team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Underwriting a diverse portfolio of complex Commercial Property risks
- Managing, coaching and mentoring a small underwriting team
- Monitoring service standards and team performance against SLAs
- Supporting the Head of Underwriting with underwriting strategy and technical referrals
- Contributing to product development, underwriting guidelines, audits and market research
- Monitoring portfolio performance, profitability and loss ratios
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers, underwriting agencies and other key stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to improve underwriting quality, processes and portfolio growth

About You
This is an outstanding opportunity for an accomplished Commercial Property Underwriter who enjoys tackling complex risks, influencing underwriting strategy and leading a high-performing team. You will be a polished, technically strong insurance professional with at least 10 years' experience in Commercial Property Underwriting. Experience underwriting SME and Mid-Market risks will also be considered.
To succeed in this role you will have:
- Advanced Commercial Property and ISR product knowledge (essential)
- The confidence to assess and underwrite complex risks within delegated authority
- A collaborative leadership style and the ability to coach, mentor and inspire others
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with brokers and key stakeholders
- Strong commercial judgement, analytical ability and sound decision-making skills
- Experience in Contract Works or Energy underwriting would be highly regarded.
