Macfarlane Generators Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced
Diesel Mechanic/Diesel Fitter for Workshop/Hire Department
to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a hands-on technical position based in our Clayton South VIC **** facility. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel-powered generators and related equipment. You will play a crucial part in ensuring our hire fleet remains in optimal working condition, supporting both our internal operations and our valued clients. This position is ideal for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and reliability.
What you'll be doing
Perform routine maintenance and preventative servicing on diesel generators, engines and associated equipment
Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
Repair and replace defective components, including fuel systems, cooling systems, and engine parts
Conduct thorough inspections of equipment before and after hire to ensure safety and operational standards
Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment serviced
Test repaired equipment to verify functionality and performance specifications
Communicate with Department Manager regarding repair progress and service requirements
Adhere to health and safety regulations and workshop procedures at all times
Support the hire department by preparing equipment for rental and managing turnaround times
What we're looking for
Formal qualification as a Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Fitter, or equivalent demonstrated experience in diesel engine servicing and repair
Proven experience working on diesel generators, engines or similar heavy machinery in a workshop environment
Strong technical knowledge of diesel engine systems, including fuel injection,



cooling, electrical and hydraulic systems
Proficiency with mechanical and electrical diagnostic tools and equipment
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and service specifications
Sound understanding of workshop health and safety practices and compliance requirements
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable, punctual and professional attitude towards work
Experience with hire fleet management or customer-facing technical roles is desirable
