The Opportunity
At Shine, we champion better justice for our clients.
As a Law Clerk working a minimum of three (or more is encouraged!) days per week, on a permanent, part-time basis in our Sydney CBD-based Class Actions Investigation team, you will support our Investigations Manager to build the foundations of cases that can deliver meaningful outcomes for thousands of Australians.
From social justice and employment matters to consumer, environmental, securities and financial services claims, you'll work on cases at the heart of Australia's public interest while supporting the future growth of Shine's Class Actions practice.
Conducting legal, regulatory and media research across potential class action categories
Preparing chronologies, issue summaries, case notes and investigation records
Reviewing source material including judgments, regulator announcements, analyst commentary, media reports and complaints data
Assisting with viability assessments, including merits, case theory, quantum and recoverability
Maintaining investigation trackers and supporting reporting to the Head of Class Actions
Supporting our Legal team with optimising the use of internal systems to process information
Supporting communications with internal team members, counsel and external stakeholders where required
What you'll bring
Previous paralegal or equivalent experience is desirable
Early progression towards Bachelor of Laws is preferred
Robust research and analytical skills
Ability to synthesize complex information into concise written summaries
Attention to detail and disciplined record keeping
Comfort working across multiple early‐stage matters at once
Curiosity about class actions, regulation, public interest litigation and commercial case assessment
A strong understanding of, and ability to interpret, legal research, legal documentation and legislation
An innate ability to question, challenge the status quo and always stay ahead of the pack
You'll be a great communicator both verbally and in writing
A commitment to truly connect with those around you and work together to deliver exceptional results for our clients
The passion, motivation and enthusiasm to contribute to our culture and ensure it's a place where everyone can thrive
The ability to work at least three consecutive days per week on an ongoing basis, from 8:15am to 5:00pm each day (ideally Tuesday to Thursday)
