Indigeco is recruiting Senior Legal Counsel professionals for our client, a major NSW Government organisation. This 12-month contract will support a senior legal function on an ad-hoc basis, with successful candidates forming part of a pre-qualified panel of highly experienced solicitors who can be engaged to assist with discrete matters, priority projects and resourcing gaps. This opportunity is suited to senior practitioners operating at, or capable of operating at, a fractional General Counsel level.
THE COMPANY
Our client is a large NSW Government organisation operating in a complex public sector environment. This is an opportunity to provide high level legal advice on matters that require sound judgement, strong government knowledge and the ability to deliver practical, high quality outcomes with minimal supervision.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide senior legal advice across complex matters, discrete projects and priority workstreams as required
Support the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and senior legal team with high quality, practical and timely legal input
Apply deep knowledge of government frameworks, public sector obligations, governance and administrative processes
Review, analyse and advise on legal risks, policy considerations, commercial issues and stakeholder impacts
Prepare explicit written advice, briefings, correspondence and legal documentation for senior stakeholders
Work independently and integrate quickly into existing teams, processes and matter requirements
Support the organisation during resourcing gaps while maintaining a high standard of professional judgement and discretion
YOUR REQUIREMENTS
15+ years' post qualification experience as a solicitor or senior legal practitioner
Current Australian practising certificate, or ability to hold appropriate practising status for the engagement
Strong experience providing senior legal advice in complex organisational, government or public sector environments
Deep familiarity with government frameworks, public administration, governance, probity and public sector decision making
Ability to operate at a senior advisory level, including fractional General Counsel or equivalent capability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to advise senior executives and stakeholders
Availability to work 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week, with a minimum of 2 days in office in Sydney CBD to be discussed

Hourly payrate of $200 to $240 + super
