The John Flynn College is an independent residential college located in the heart of James Cook University, Townsville. The College now invites applications for the role of Deputy Principal.

This is a hands‑on leadership role at the Heart of College life. The Deputy Principal is responsible for the day-to‑day operations and community life of the College, providing leadership across student wellbeing, residential standards, behaviour management and duty of care, while also overseeing facilities, maintenance, housekeeping, and Work Health and Safety.

The successful candidate will bring a warm and approachable leadership style, significant experience supporting young adults within a diverse community, strong operational and organisational capability, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. They will be equally comfortable contributing to strategic planning and leading practical, day‑to‑day operations in a dynamic residential environment.

As a key member of the College leadership team, the Deputy Principal will champion Flynn's values by fostering a safe and inclusive community, encouraging active participation in College life, modelling ethical leadership, caring for our environment, and supporting lifelong learning. Working closely with the Principal and College staff,



they will help shape an exceptional residential experience where students feel connected, supported and empowered to achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing university students and a demonstrated commitment to promoting wellbeing, safety and inclusion. They will be confident in guiding and supporting students through a range of personal and community matters, while fostering respectful relationships, positive behaviour and a culture of belonging. Combining sound judgement with empathy, professionalism and a robust commitment to duty of care, the Deputy Principal will play a central role in ensuring John Flynn College remains a safe, vibrant and supportive home where students can thrive academically, socially and personally.

The successful candidate will require Tertiary qualifications with extensive relevant experience, be required to live on‑site, possess (or be eligible to obtain) a current Blue Card, and participate in a background (criminal history) check.
