The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA) is seeking an experienced and motivated Health & Safety Officer to support the delivery and safe operation of the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) ****.As part of the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team, you will play a critical role in implementing and monitoring the RNA's Safety Management System and Event Safety Management Plan, ensuring compliance with relevant WHS legislation and maintaining a safe environment for patrons, staff, volunteers, contractors, exhibitors and stakeholders.This is a hands-on, physically active role that requires excellent communication skills, sound judgement, strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to risk management in a complex, fast-paced live event environment.This is a casual position with an expectation of full availability across a 2–3 week period, including all Beef Week and Ekka event operational days, bump-in and bump-out activities.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct regular workplace inspections and safety audits across the Brisbane Showgrounds to identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures in accordance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and RNA policies.Monitor compliance with the RNA Safety Management System, contractor management requirements, safe work procedures and event-specific safety controls.Liaise with exhibitors, contractors, patrons, volunteers and event staff to promote protected work practices, positive safety behaviours and a strong safety culture.Review and verify contractor safety documentation, including but not limited to Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk assessments, licences, permits and competency records.Respond to, investigate and report incidents,



near misses, hazards and unsafe conditions using approved reporting systems, ensuring timely corrective and preventative actions are implemented.Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis and the preparation of clear, accurate reports and recommendations.Support the development, review and implementation of risk assessments, safe work procedures and operational safety plans for event activities.Monitor high-risk activities and work areas to ensure compliance with relevant legislative and organisational requirements.Manage crowd safety and public risk controls where required to ensure safe access, movement, ingress and egress throughout the event precinct.Assist with WHS inductions and provide safety guidance to contractors, exhibitors and event personnel.Participate in emergency preparedness activities and liaise with medical teams, emergency services, event security and the Incident Management Team during emergency response situations.Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports and compliance documentation.Escalate significant safety concerns and emerging risks to the Health Safety and Risk Manager in a timely manner.About YouMinimum 3 years' experience in a Workplace Health and Safety role, preferably within major events, construction, entertainment,



hospitality or other high-risk operational environments.Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (mandatory).
Current First Aid and CPR certification (mandatory).
Sound knowledge of Queensland Work Health and Safety legislation, risk management principles and incident investigation processes.Experience conducting workplace inspections, risk assessments and contractor safety management activities.Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build positive working relationships.A high level of attention to detail, organisation and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risks and implement practical risk control measures.A proactive, solutions-focused approach to safety management and problem-solving.Availability to work every day of the Ekka operational period, including Beef Week and all bump-in and bump-out days (approximately 2–3 weeks total).
Physical fitness and stamina to meet the demands of extensive walking, standing and outdoor work across day or night shifts.About UsThe RNA runs the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka), Queensland's largest event, on behalf of the community for 9 days each year in August.
Staged at its original birthplace, the Brisbane Showgrounds, the Ekka showcases its unique tradition and heritage by bringing the city and country together for a once-a-year exhibition.
