The Position
The Youth Worker - Specialist Homelessness Services is a member of a broader support team that works collaboratively to assist young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
The role supports young people with day-to-day living skills, independent living goals, emotional wellbeing, and community connection, while providing a safe, supportive and trauma-informed environment that encourages positive choices and promotes stability, resilience and personal growth.
Primary accountabilities of the role of Youth Worker include, but are not limited to:
Support the implementation of each young person's case plan in collaboration with the House Manager and other stakeholders involved in the care of the young person.
Engage with, develop and maintain effective communication and positive relationship with the young people in care to develop a positive mentoring relationship.




Assist with the development of personal and living skills through encouragement and promotion of positive self-care, food, hygiene, and financial practices.
Assist with the development of educational, vocational and social skills through encouraging participation in leisure, recreational, sporting and community activities.
Provide assistance with andencourage the young person in care with their day to day activities.
Establish an appropriate balance between the needs of a young person and the needs of the group.
Assist each young person to effectively manage their own behaviour through self-awareness and strengths-basedapproach in line with Marist180 guidelines.
Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours or incidents and ensuring the safety of young people at risk of harm.
Maintain documentation and records as per Marist180 procedures, including completing accurate and timely reports, communications, timesheets, financial records.
Contribute to a positive, safe and productive workplace, including reporting of safety concerns and ensuring house is safe and clean.
Engage in reflective supervision with house manager and participate in learning/ development opportunities.
Complete set house tasks assigned for effective house management and respond to reasonable directions from house manager and care team.




Actively contribute to a child-safe organisation by championing the safety, wellbeing, rights and voices of children and young people; recognising and reporting child-safety concerns; and contributing to an open, accountable and learning culture where concerns, incidents and feedback are used to strengthen practice and prevent harm.
Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services or similar.Exceptions may be considered for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified candidates with relevant skills, knowledge and lived/community experience.
Minimum of 1 year experience working with young people in a residential setting
Demonstrated ability to engage clients positively while maintaining own boundaries
National Police Check and a Working with Children's Check
Current First Aid and CPR Certification
Unrestricted Drivers Licence.
Provide consent to complete a verification of the Residential Care Workers Register managed by Office of the Children's Guardian
