Store Manager — Gumption by Coffee Alchemy (The Strand Arcade, Sydney)

Gumption is seeking a Store Manager who can run a calm, intelligent, high‑craft operation in one of Sydney’s most iconic retail spaces. This role suits someone who understands that excellent service is equal parts sensory clarity, team rhythm, and commercial discipline.

You will:

Lead daily operations with steadiness, precision, and a sense of calm

Work on shifts as a barista

Train, mentor, and develop new staff so they grow into confident, capable operators

Build and manage weekly schedules that balance service needs, staff wellbeing, and labour efficiency

Manage labour costs with discipline — forecasting, adjusting, and maintaining targets without compromising service quality. Experience with Deputy scheduling app a plus

Maintain the product and service standards Gumption is known for

Provide professional, knowledgeable customer service grounded in a solid understanding of specialty coffee

Drive the store toward sales targets through consistent service, team alignment, and smart operational decisions

Maintain optimum levels of inventory and stay on top of ordering supplies





Work closely with head office on operational improvements and current initiatives

Report to and carry out directions from head office

You are:

Experienced in hospitality leadership (2–3+ years in a supervisory or management role)

A sharply honed barista with amazing dialling‑in and milk skills, and outstanding at troubleshooting problem shots. A good palate works in your favour although you will be trained on Gumption’s sensory standards

Skilled at training, mentoring, and elevating a team — especially newer staff

Organised, proactive, and confident in scheduling and labour management

Comfortable working toward sales targets and understanding the levers that influence them

Knowledgeable enough about specialty coffee to speak with clarity and confidence and guide customers through products

A steady communicator who reads the room and keeps service smooth

Able to work fulltime legally
