About the Role
The Senior Civil Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed tender budgets, bills of quantities, takeoffs, proposals, scope reviews and tender documentation for civil, demolition, remediation and excavation projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with GKC Group's internal team, review tender documents, prepare accurate estimates, raise technical queries, liaise with clients and subcontractors, and participate in tender meetings where required.
This role requires more than basic quantity takeoff. We are looking for someone capable of understanding civil construction scopes, identifying risks and opportunities, preparing structured estimates, and communicating professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, schedules, geotechnical reports, addenda and consultant information.
Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and bills of quantities for civil, demolition, remediation and excavation works.
Prepare tender budgets using GKC Group's internal templates and estimating systems.
Undertake first-principles estimating, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, disposal, haulage and productivity assumptions.
Prepare detailed scope breakdowns, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions.
Review tender documents to identify risks, gaps, inconsistencies and opportunities.
Prepare tender query registers and assist with issuing clarifications.
Prepare proposal documents, tender submissions and pricing schedules.
Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers during the tender phase.
Attend internal tender reviews,



client meetings and tender interviews where required.
Prepare subcontractor and supplier enquiry packages.
Compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
Assist with tender handover documentation for successful projects.
Maintain organised tender folders, document registers, drawing registers and addenda registers.
Revise estimates and proposals following addenda, clarifications and client feedback.
Work closely with management to improve estimating systems, templates and processes.

Software Experience
The successful candidate must be confident using, or able to quickly adapt to, the following software:
Cubit
MudShark
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft SharePoint / OneDrive
Microsoft 365
Experience with civil estimating, earthworks modelling or quantity takeoff software will be highly regarded.
Required Experience
Solid experience preparing BOQs, budgets and tender estimates.
Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural, services and consultant drawings.
Strong understanding of construction methodology, productivity, labour, plant, materials and subcontractor pricing.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate confidently with clients,



consultants, subcontractors and internal team members.
Ability to attend tender meetings and present information clearly.
Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify tender risks.
High level of organisation and document control.
Preferred Experience
Australian civil construction tendering
Bulk earthworks estimating
Remediation and contaminated land projects
Shoring and excavation packages
Stormwater and pavement works
Tender interviews and client-facing meetings
Preparation of construction proposals and tender submissions
Senior Civil Estimator will be expected to prepare and manage:
Detailed tender budgets
BOQs and quantity takeoffs
Cubit files
Bluebeam marked-up drawings
MudShark quantity outputs where applicable
Scope breakdowns
Inclusions and exclusions
Assumptions registers
Subcontractor comparison sheets
Supplier and subcontractor enquiry packages
Drawing and document registers
