Aluminium TIG Fabricator / Welder – Automotive Chassis & Structural Components
About Absolute Pace
Absolute Pace is an Australian designer and manufacturer of performance kit cars for Australian and international customers.
Our vehicles combine laser-cut aluminium chassis technology, precision-fabricated components and carbon-composite bodywork.
We are committed to producing consistently high-quality vehicles and components from our manufacturing facility in Arundel on the Gold Coast.
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, trade-qualified Fabricator/Welder to take a leading hands-on role in manufacturing our TIG-welded aluminium chassis and other structural vehicle components.
This is not a general production-welding position.
The work requires accuracy, repeatability and a strong understanding of aluminium fabrication.
You will manufacture components from engineering drawings, specifications and jigs, complete in-process quality checks and help provide practical workplace guidance to our boilermaker apprentice.
Key responsibilities
• TIG-weld aluminium chassis assemblies and other safety-critical structural components.
• Fabricate fuel tanks, brackets, panels and associated steel and aluminium components.
• Prepare, cut, fit and assemble laser-cut parts using band-saws, drop saws, hand tools and workshop equipment.
• Work accurately from approved drawings, manufacturing specifications, welding procedures and jigs.
• Control joint preparation, cleanliness, heat input, weld sequence and distortion during aluminium fabrication.
• Complete dimensional and visual quality checks throughout fabrication, ensuring components are right the first time.
• Maintain material, weld,
inspection and production records as required by our quality processes.
• Safely operate and care for welding and fabrication equipment, including routine stock and consumable checks.
• Provide patient, practical guidance to our boilermaker apprentice within the approved training and supervision arrangements.
• Contribute to a safe, organised and continuously improving workshop.
Essential qualifications and experience
• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaker/Welding), or a recognized Australian equivalent trade qualification.
• Strong recent experience TIG-welding aluminium structural components—not only light-gauge or cosmetic work.
• Demonstrated ability to produce repeatable, high-integrity aluminium welds and pass a practical weld test before undertaking production chassis welding.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any project-specific aluminium welder qualification required by our approved welding procedures, engineering specifications or AS/NZS **** requirements.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, checking dimensions and fabricating accurately in jigs.
• Knowledge of aluminium preparation, contamination control, weld sequencing, heat management and distortion control.
• Appropriate trade qualifications, experience and competency to supervise,
instruct and mentor a Boilermaker apprentice in the workplace.
• Strong safety awareness, attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a small manufacturing team.
• Current driver licence and unrestricted Australian working rights.
• Ability to safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the role, including handling materials and components weighing approximately 20 kg where required.
Desirable experience
• Current aluminium welder qualification relevant to GTAW/TIG structural work.
• Automotive, motorsport, aircraft, marine or other safety-critical aluminium fabrication experience.
• Experience with Miller Dynasty TIG equipment.
• MIG welding experience across aluminium and steel.
• Experience mentoring or supervising fabrication apprentices.
• Familiarity with weld traceability, inspection records and manufacturing quality systems.
What we offer
• A permanent full time opportunity following successful completion of the probationary period.
• Competitive pay based on qualifications and relevant aluminium-fabrication experience.
• A 38-hour working week, with overtime available when required.
• A well-equipped workshop with varied, technically interesting automotive projects.
• A supportive team environment with strong workplace health and safety practices.
• Opportunities for further training, professional development and career progression.
• The satisfaction of producing specialized Australian-manufactured vehicles for local and international customers.
