About the Role
This role provides counselling to women and children navigating complex trauma, due to domestic, family and sexual violence, and homelessness.
It provides evidence informed therapeutic approaches to recovery.
Culturally responsive engagement, comprehensive assessment and psychological safety planning, and preparation of reports to support applications to various government agencies including Victim Services.
Child secure engagement to support recovery.
Work as part of a team with case workers to deliver quality outcomes for women and children.
Key Responsibilities
Counselling: Provide one-on-one counselling services to women and children surviving domestic, family and sexual violence, mental ill health, and trauma.
Engagement: Use of recovery oriented, strengths-based approaches to support adult and child clients.
Assessment & Planning:



Assess client's needs through evidence informed tools.
Create tailored support plans.
Provide informed strategies to support recovery.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to privacy, ethical and legal obligations including for children at risk of harm.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or Psychology, or equivalent experience in the provision of counselling in relevant field.
Professional Membership: A member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Australian Association of Social Workers or related accredited body, or eligible to be one.
Experience: At least three years experience in counselling people experiencing complex trauma, including people who have experienced domestic, family or sexual violence.
In-depth understanding of the issues faced by migrant women and their children who experience domestic violence and homelessness.
Experience applying relevant standardised assessment tools and practices.
Cultural Capability: Demonstrated ability to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds with empathy and respect and knowledge of systemic and other barriers impacting migrant women and children.
Knowledge: Understanding of the dynamics of domestic, family and sexual violence and the impact on victim/survivors.
Understanding of ACES and impact on child development.
Professionalism: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.
Sound knowledge of ethical and legal obligations in counselling.
Desirable Criteria
Current Driver's License
Fluency in a community language other than English.
Conditions of Employment
Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police check.
