We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Financial Accountant to take ownership of our day-to-day financial accounting function and help ensure our finance operations are accurate, controlled and scalable.
This is a senior, practical role suited to someone who enjoys being close to the detail, can confidently manage month-end close and core finance operations, and is comfortable working in a fast-moving small business environment. You’ll report directly to the CFO and supervise the Commercial Accountant, while also supporting broader reporting, compliance, funding and process improvement priorities across the business.
Experience in financial services, lending, investment administration or a regulated finance setting would be highly regarded.
Senior Financial Accountant
Funds Now | Norwest, NSW | Full-time
About Funds Now
Funds Now is a growing Australian business providing lending solutions to small and medium businesses. We operate in a fast-paced, technology-enabled environment and value accuracy, accountability, strong controls and continuous improvement.
Our finance function is central to the way the business operates, supporting everything from day-to-day accounting and payroll through to investor reporting, funding administration, audit readiness and business performance analysis.
About the Role
As Senior Financial Accountant, you will lead the core financial accounting and operational finance activities of the business. You’ll be responsible for month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll oversight, accounts payable and receivable oversight, audit coordination, compliance lodgments, and finance administration relating to loans, investors and funding arrangements.
You’ll also work closely with the CFO on management reporting, business performance analysis, cash flow forecasting, funding support and process improvement initiatives.
This role would suit someone who is technically strong, highly organised and detail-oriented, but also practical, commercially aware and comfortable operating in a business where priorities can move quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and review schedules.
- Ensure the general ledger is accurate, complete and supported by appropriate working papers.
- Prepare financial statements and reports for internal, statutory, lender, investor and audit purposes.
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances or unusual movements.
- Oversee accounts payable, payment runs, supplier set-up, employee expenses and related controls.
- Oversee revenue recognition for loans and support accurate recording of loan, funding, warehouse, trust and investment-related transactions.
- Supervise and support the Commercial Accountant, including prioritisation, review, quality control and segregation of duties.
- Oversee payroll processing, including payroll calculations, leave, superannuation, payroll tax, bonuses, commissions and supporting records.
- Assist with financial reporting required by investors, external funding providers and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate the external audit process, including preparation of schedules, responses to information requests and resolution of audit queries.
- Prepare and/or review BAS, payroll tax, superannuation and other statutory or compliance lodgments.
- Monitor daily banking, cash movements and reconciliations across operating, funding and investment accounts.
- Support the CFO with cash flow forecasting and financial inputs for management, board and funding-related reporting.
- Maintain and improve finance policies, controls and procedures to support accuracy, privacy, data protection and audit readiness.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance workflows, reduce manual processing, strengthen controls and make better use of systems and automation.
About You
You’ll be someone who takes real ownership of your work, enjoys getting the details right, and can balance technical accounting requirements with practical business needs.
Ideally, you will have:
- CA or CPA qualification, or be working towards qualification.
- Expert Excel capability.
- Strong financial accounting experience, including month-end close, reconciliations, journals, balance sheet review and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing financial statements, supporting audit processes and managing statutory or compliance reporting requirements.
- Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, expenses and operational finance processes.
- High attention to detail and strong judgement in relation to controls, compliance, confidentiality and financial risk.
- A proactive, accountable and improvement-focused approach.
- The ability to work effectively in a small team where the role is both hands-on and commercially involved.
Experience in financial services, lending, loans, investments, funding structures or another regulated finance-related environment would be highly regarded. Power BI, reporting automation or broader systems improvement experience would also be beneficial.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to step into a senior finance role with genuine ownership, variety and exposure across the business.
You’ll work closely with the CFO and leadership team, contribute to the continued development of the finance function, and play an important role in supporting a growing lending business with increasingly sophisticated reporting, funding and operational requirements.
The role offers a mix of technical accounting, operational finance, investor and funder reporting, process improvement, systems optimisation and team supervision - ideal for someone who enjoys both structure and variety.
