This role is essential to the teaching, clinical education and curriculum development in First Nations Peoples’ health across the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) programs and strengthening culturally safe practice through building staff and student capabilities across the School. The successful applicant will be a core member of a dynamic team building capacity in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health education, supporting student engagement and learning, and contributing to the School’s broader research, teaching and community partnerships.

The School of Dentistry is seeking an outstanding educator and clinician to join our academic team in a role focused on First Nations Peoples’ health and culturally safe practice. Based primarily in the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building on North Terrace, this opportunity offers the chance to contribute to high-quality teaching, guide curriculum development, and help strengthen student learning and engagement in First Nations Peoples’ health.

The successful candidate will be passionate about student learning and improving health outcomes for First Nations Communities. The successful candidate will work with Program Directors, Academic Leads and course coordinators to enable the delivery of a high-quality First Nations Peoples’ health curriculum, while also contributing to the continued professional development of academic and clinical teaching staff in culturally safe practice.

Working within a collaborative and supportive environment,



as the successful candidate you will provide direct clinical supervision to students in the BDS and/or BOH programs and help expand opportunities for student engagement with Aboriginal communities across South Australia. You will also have the opportunity to engage with the Indigenous Oral Health Unit and other research groups within the School, contributing to the School’s broader teaching, research and community engagement activities.

Selection Criteria/Experience

Level B you will need

1. Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as a dental practitioner (dentist or oral health therapist) and the ability to meet SA Dental Credentialling which includes a valid Working with Children Check, a National Police Clearance and Healthcare Worker Immunisation Screening
2. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations, and /or across academic,



health professional or interprofessional settings.
3. Demonstrated understanding of First Nations health equity and culturally safe practice across the core functions of the School, including Community engagement, curriculum development, teaching, research and professional development.
4. Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering teaching, mentoring and/or professional development for students or health professionals, in clinical, community, and/or academic settings.
5. High-level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and inclusive team environment.

Level C you will need

1. Qualifications

Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications, professional experience and or community leadership
