Location: Sydney or Melbourne
A growing and well-established organisation within the insurance sector is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join its collaborative finance team.
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the month-end process, contribute to strategic decision-making, and drive continuous improvement across finance operations.
This position would suit a technically strong accountant who enjoys working in a fast-paced setting, has excellent systems capability, and is passionate about delivering accurate financial reporting and meaningful commercial insights.

With continued growth and investment in its finance function, they are seeking a Financial Accountant who can contribute both operationally and strategically.
The Role
As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, ensuring compliance obligations are met, and supporting the broader finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end month-end close process
- Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed asset registers and reconciliations
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
- Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis and financial reporting packs
- Assist with annual budgets and forecasting processes
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements including BAS,
PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation and ASIC compliance
- Oversee payroll processing and reporting
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support cash flow management and forecasting activities
- Coordinate audit requirements and external reporting obligations
- Identify and implement process improvements across finance operations
- Act as a key systems user and subject matter expert for accounting platforms
- Mentor and support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team members
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong technical accounting capability combined with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or Business
- CA or CPA qualified (or actively working towards qualification) is highly regarded.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar role
- Proven experience leading month-end reporting processes
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and compliance obligations
- Advanced reconciliation, reporting and analytical skills
- Experience using MYOB and Xero is essential
- Strong Excel and financial systems capability
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience within insurance, financial services or another regulated industry
- Exposure to systems implementations and process improvement projects
