Location

Port Macquarie Base Hospital, Mid North Coast Local Health District

Join our team within the Hastings Macleay Clinical Network, based primarily at Port Macquarie Base Hospital. This is a great opportunity to deliver contemporary specialist gastroenterology care while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of the NSW Mid North Coast.

This full-time (1 FTE) role provides inpatient and outpatient specialist gastroenterology services, supporting optimal outcomes for patients across the network. Consideration will be given to applicants proposing fractional appointment or job-sharing arrangements.

While the position is primarily based at Port Macquarie Base Hospital, there's an expectation of providing care, advice and outreach to Kempsey District Hospital and other peripheral facilities and community clinics as required.

Reporting to the Head of Department of Medicine, you'll provide a consultant service, participate in the elective endoscopic procedure list and perform emergency endoscopic procedures, and take part in the on‑call emergency scope roster (with possible participation in the General Medicine on‑call roster).

You'll work closely with nursing, allied health and administrative colleagues to ensure continuity and quality of care, and contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management activities. Education and mentorship are central to this position. You'll provide supervision and training to junior medical officers,

registrars and other relevant staff, supporting a culture of learning and continuous career development. A managerial allowance may be considered for the right senior candidate.

- AHPRA registration
- Fellowship of the RACP
- Current Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy certification with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia is required (or the ability to obtain this within 6 months of commencement)
- certification and/or Fellowship to perform ERCP is highly desirable
- A valid NSW Working with Children Check

You’ll bring a high standard of clinical practice, strong communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching, quality improvement and multidisciplinary teamwork.

This role will suit someone who values clinical excellence, collaborative practice and making a meaningful impact within a regional health service. You’ll be joining a supportive network that prioritises patient safety, cultural respect and community health outcomes.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Traditional Custodians and Elders — past, present and emerging — of the lands and waters on which RACP members and staff live, learn and work. RACP acknowledges Māori as tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi partners in Aotearoa New Zealand.
