Therapeutic Home-Based Carer (Foster Carer)

Are you able to provide a stable, safe and loving home environment where young people can thrive? We are looking for people to provide care for children aged between 12 and 17 years in our specialist foster care program (THBC – Therapeutic Home-Based Care) within Northern NSW. To be eligible to provide this type of care, you must be an authorised foster carer. If you are not an authorised foster carer Allambi Care can support you through this process.

The THBC model is a specialist foster care program set up to support carers who have children with complex care needs. This is a 24/7 care arrangement that can take place in your home (preferred) or in limited circumstances a residence provided by Allambi Care. The care occurs at home, either in your home or a house provided by Allambi Care. This is different to standard foster care, as the allowance paid to the carer is substantially higher, and there is a higher level of support provided to the carer. Additionally, there are therapeutic supports provided to the child such as psychological and behavioural specialists and intensive case work support.

Provide daily care and support for children and young people in your care, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

Ensure children and young people in your care receive the clinical and therapeutic support they require.

Manage and coordinate medical appointments, therapeutic sessions, and educational engagement.

Foster a positive relationship with family members and help maintain cultural connections

Work collaboratively with Allambi Care and other stakeholders to implement case plans and support strategies.





Actively participate in care team meetings, home visits and appointments with allied health to implement therapeutic strategies.

Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance caregiving skills

Qualifications and Skills:

Have the ability to connect, support and care for children and young people with complex needs

Can resolve problems and respond to crisis with compassion and resilience

Have a demonstrated capacity to respond to children therapeutically.

Skilled in supporting children and young people with complex needs

A strong desire to continuously learn and adapt to the changing needs of children and young people

Effective communication and ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
