We're looking for an experienced Team Lead / Mental Health Specialist Counsellor to join our Healing and Recovery Team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced trauma-informed counsellor who enjoys mentoring and supporting others while continuing to deliver meaningful clinical work.

You’ll spend your time supporting both participants and clinicians - providing day-to-day leadership, supervision and clinical support to the team while maintaining your own counselling caseload. You’ll help strengthen clinical practice, foster a positive team culture and support women and gender-diverse people on their journey towards healing and recovery.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Official Position Title: Team Lead / Mental Health Specialist Counsellor

Location: South Brisbane

Working days: Friday is a required working day. The remaining three working days are flexible and can be agreed with the successful candidate.

The Healing and Recovery Team provides specialist counselling,



case management and therapeutic groups for women and gender-diverse people living in the Brisbane Local Government Area who have experienced domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).

This role combines day-to-day team leadership with direct clinical practice. You’ll provide supervision, clinical guidance and operational support to the Healing and Recovery Team while maintaining an active counselling caseload.

Working closely with the Program Lead, you’ll help ensure participants receive safe, evidence-informed and trauma-informed support while contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture.

As the Team Lead / Mental Health Specialist Counsellor, you will:

Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and clinical guidance to the Healing and Recovery Team.

Deliver specialist trauma-informed mental health counselling through face-to-face, telephone and telehealth appointments.

Undertake comprehensive assessments, risk assessments and collaborative safety planning.

Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.

Support counsellors through reflective practice, case consultation and clinical debriefing.

Contribute to recruitment, onboarding and capability development of new team members.

Support continuous quality improvement and evidence-informed practice.

Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen participant outcomes.

This is an office-based role located in South Brisbane.

A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) is required prior to commencement.

ABOUT YOU

You're an experienced trauma-informed mental health counsellor who enjoys supporting both participants and fellow clinicians.

You value collaboration, reflective practice and clinical excellence, and you're ready to take the next step in your career by combining counselling with team leadership.

You’ll also bring:

A Bachelor or postgraduate qualification in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology.

Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed mental health counselling to women impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence.

Experience providing clinical supervision, coaching or leadership within a multidisciplinary team.

Strong understanding of trauma-informed, gender-responsive and culturally safe practice.

Experience undertaking risk assessment and safety planning.

Excellent communication, leadership and relationship-building skills.

Confidence using client management systems, Microsoft Office and telehealth platforms.
