This isn't a "watch from the sidelines" in-house role. A fast-growing national organisation is mid-acquisition strategy right now, and they need an experienced Corporate/M&A; lawyer to step in and run the deals — not just support them.
You’ll report directly to the General Counsel and work alongside the executive leadership team, taking ownership of M&A; and corporate transactional work while a key team member is on secondment. Expect real autonomy, real deal flow, and real influence over how the function operates.
The role
- Lead acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures and strategic transactions from start to finish
- Own the deal process — structuring, due diligence, negotiation, completion
- Get involved in post-deal integration and governance
- Sit across the table from senior stakeholders and advise directly on corporate and commercial matters
- Shape the internal M&A; playbooks and frameworks the business will use going forward
- Manage external counsel relationships and keep legal spend efficient
What you'll bring
- Current Australian practising certificate
- 6+ years' PQE in Corporate/M&A; (private practice and/or in-house)
- A track record of actually running deals, not just assisting on them
- Confidence managing stakeholders and decision-makers directly
- A commercial, pragmatic mindset suited to a fast-moving environment
- Robust drafting, negotiation and project management skills
Why take this on?
- Genuine end-to-end ownership of live transactions
- Direct line of sight to executive decision-making
- Autonomy to shape how the M&A; function runs
- A strong, active pipeline — this isn't a quiet six months
