Diabetes Australia is seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Officer to help increase awareness, access, and participation in the Get Healthy Service among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and stakeholdersin NSW.

This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with communities, organisations, and stakeholders to promote culturally safe health programs and support positive health outcomes. Strong community connections, cultural knowledge and the ability to build genuine and respectful relationships are essential requirements of the position.

This role gives you the opportunityto work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and stakeholder across NSW, helping to increase awareness, access, and participation in the Get Healthy Service.

You'll be trusted to build meaningful relationships with communities, organisations, and stakeholders, representing Diabetes Australia in community and promoting the Get Healthy Service and other initiatives that support mob to live healthier lives.

Most importantly, you'll be part of work that has real impact.

What you’ll be doing

This role is all about connection.

You'll spend your time building and maintaining relationships with communities, organisations and stakeholders, while helping raise awareness of programs and services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Some of your days might involve:

Yarning with community members about healthy living and diabetes prevention

Promoting the Get Healthy Service at community events, meetings and gatherings

Building strong partnerships with Aboriginal organisations and community leaders

Helping make sure programs are culturally safe and meaningful for mob

Travelling across NSW to connect with communities and stakeholders face-to-face

We're looking for someone who...

We're looking for someone who is confident talking to people,



comfortable representing a program in community and passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

You’ll bring:

Strong connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Experience working in community engagement, health promotion or similar roles

Confidence engaging and speaking with community groups and stakeholders

An understanding of the health challenges and barriers impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

A genuine passion and commitment to supporting healthier communities

Most of all, we’re looking for someone with heart. Someone who loves connecting with people and wants to be part of positive change.

A few things you’ll need

This role involves regular community engagement and travel, you’ll need:

To identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

A current driver’s licence

A reliable vehicle

Willingness and ability to travel regularly across NSW, including overnight travel when required.
