Job Description

Full Time, 3‑year fixed‑term appointment located at Bundoora Campus. Remuneration from $172,864. The Associate Professor (Research) will provide high‑level oversight of research projects and nurture strong industry, clinical and health sector partnerships. The role reports to the Director and Chief Scientist of ACAMI and collaborates closely with the Director of Development, the ACAMI team, and internal and external stakeholders.

Founded in 2024, ACAMI is a team-oriented centre spanning research, clinical trials, and workforce development at the intersection of AI and healthcare, supporting medical research institutes and industry partners in Victoria.

Key responsibilities include:

- Attract, establish, and integrate new research groups or clusters into ACAMI, including identifying complementary research capabilities and developing major research plans.
- Lead major research projects and emerging research groups within the Centre, guiding teams to deliver impactful AI solutions for real‑world medical, biological, and clinical challenges.




- Secure significant external research funding from industry and government sources through large‑scale competitive proposals and collaborative partnerships.
- Collaborate with ACAMI’s Director, Development, and relevant University teams to identify, protect and progress intellectual property, software, products, and implementation opportunities arising from ACAMI research.

Qualifications

- Completion of a PhD or equivalent accreditation in AI/ML, computational biology, biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational medicine, or a related field.
- A substantial and internationally recognised record of excellence in AI‑enabled biomedical, biological, clinical, health or medical innovation.
- A significant record of securing external funding and partner investment, including competitive grants, industry partnerships, government contracts, philanthropic funding, and consultancies, with evidence of building research capacity and sustainable programs.
