Role Overview

Join the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) Public Health Unit as a Registered Nurse within the Communicable Diseases Team. You will play a key role in the assessment, management, and prevention of notifiable communicable diseases, working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver consistent, high-quality public health services. All staff must meet NSW Health’s vaccination and screening requirements before starting, including a mandatory influenza (flu) vaccination.

Are You the Right Fit?

We are seeking a passionate nurse with a strong interest in public health and communicable disease management who thrives in a multidisciplinary team setting. You will possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to use telephone and other communication platforms to gather and convey critical information for the assessment and management of communicable diseases in an engaging, sensitive, and culturally appropriate manner. You will provide advice and support to healthcare professionals, aged care facilities, disability providers, schools, childcare centres, and other community stakeholders, helping to protect people and communities at risk of infection. This role includes participation in after‑hours and weekend coverage with medical support.

Selection Criteria

- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Immunisation accreditation, or willingness to undertake.
- Describe your recent nursing experience and how it has prepared you to work in public health or communicable disease management,



including an example of risk assessment and evidence‑based practice that achieved a timely and appropriate outcome.
- Provide an example of a time when you communicated complex or sensitive health information to a patient, community member, or stakeholder, ensuring cultural appropriateness and collaboration for the best outcome.
- Applicants must possess an Australian C‑Class driver’s licence (including P1 or P2). Those holding a C‑class licence from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C‑class licence within three months of appointment. Learner’s licences are not permitted.
