We're seeking an experienced senior lawyer to lead a specialist investigations team within a respected professional member-based organisation based in Sydney.
This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the investigation and resolution of complaints, supporting regulatory decision-making, and ensuring high professional standards across the profession. Leading a team of 5+ legal professionals, you will combine hands‐on investigative work with people leadership, stakeholder engagement and operational oversight.

Key responsibilities include:
Leading, mentoring and developing a team of investigators responsible for managing complaints and regulatory matters.
Providing guidance and oversight on complex investigations, legal analysis and recommendations.
Reviewing reports, findings and recommendations prepared for internal decision‐making committees.
Conducting investigations, legal research and analysis relating to professional conduct, compliance and suitability matters.
Managing team performance, workflow allocation and case progression to ensure timely outcomes.
Liaising with complainants, legal practitioners, stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.
Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives, reporting processes and regulatory systems.
Contributing to legislative, policy and legal developments affecting the profession and regulatory framework.
About You
You are an experienced lawyer with strong leadership capability and a genuine interest in regulation, investigations and professional standards. You will bring sound judgement, exceptional communication skills and the ability to balance technical legal analysis with stakeholder management. Previous experience leading or mentoring legal professionals will be highly regarded.
You will also have:
Admission as an Australian legal practitioner and eligibility to hold an unrestricted practising certificate.
Significant post‐admission legal experience, ideally gained within a regulatory, disciplinary, investigations, government or professional services environment.
Experience managing complex investigations, complaints, compliance or qualified conduct matters.
Demonstrated people leadership, supervisory or team management experience.
Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports, recommendations and legal correspondence.
The ability to effectively manage competing priorities and drive outcomes within a busy practice environment.
A collaborative approach and commitment to maintaining high professional and ethical standards.
